Celebrating 61 Years!

By Dr. David Hocking

It was 61 years ago on this 14th of May in 1948 that the late Prime Minister of Israel, David ben Gurion, announced to the world that a new State had been born, bringing a conclusion to a difficult War of Liberation and Independence. Journalists from around the world thought that the word “Palestine” would be in the new name of this new State - a homeland for the Jewish people - now official! But, PM Ben Gurion said “NO” to the word “Palestine” and instead gave it the name that the Prophet Ezekiel gave 2500 years ago - “ERETZ YISRAEL” - “The Land of Israel”! Muslims still refer to this day as “the great disaster” - they say that if Israel continues to exist as a Nation then Islam cannot be true! That is certainly the case! The LORD GOD of Israel has stated clearly in Jeremiah 31:35-37 that the Nation of Israel will NEVER cease to exist!

Israel faces serious threats and challenges to its very existence! Israel needs our prayers and our support! The day is coming according to the Jewish Bible when the Nation shall be saved as they “look upon” the Messiah Who will return (Zechariah 12:10). May the God of Israel encourage the hearts of His people by reminding us all of the “everlasting covenant” He gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and their descendants - a covenant that includes three things: a LAND, a NATION, and a DESCENDANT Who will bless all nations of the world!
