Gog-Magog Update

By Michael G. Mickey

In Ezekiel 38-39, it is prophesied that a future attack on the nation of Israel by a Russian-Middle Eastern confederacy of nations will occur. Scripture foresees the following nations aligned in that confederacy:

Magog - Most agree this is a reference to Russia.
Meshech - Most associate this with modern day Turkey, ancient Anatolia, but some say it refers to the Moscow area.
Tubal - Most associate this with modern day Turkey, ancient Anatolia.
Persia - modern Iran
Ethiopia
Libya
Gomer - eastern Europe or Turkey
Togarmah - southeastern Europe or Turkey

In a recent commentary, I noted that a motivating factor in the future attack occurring appears to be greed, interestingly enough.

Ezekiel 38:13: Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

Anyone who looked at the list of nations above would probably immediately think pure hate would be motivating factor enough in bringing about the battle of Gog-Magog, but the nations of the world seem to suspect that the attackers are looking for material wealth. How odd, right?

If you happen to have read my earlier commentary, you know where this is headed. Israel, just last month, found what the Jerusalem Post was referring to as an "historic natural gas reservoir" offshore from Haifa. Based on what I could learn at the time, I noted the find would be significant enough that, if estimates were accurate:

Israel's natural gas demand had been met for approximately 15 years.
Israel's dependence on gas imports from outside sources was going to be reduced.
Israel was going to go from being a gas importer to a gas EXPORTER.
Israel's electricity costs were going to drop.
Israel's economy would be invigorated for generations to come!

Don't look now but this is an event that just won't go away in terms of its potential significance as we examine Ezekiel 38:13 and the battle of Gog-Magog! Now it is being reported that last month's reports underestimated the magnitude of the natural gas find.

Israel National News is reporting the following, in part (emphasis added mine):

A massive natural gas find off the coast of Haifa which was lauded as capable of fueling all of Israel for 15 years is actually more than 60 percent larger than originally estimated, according to the American partner in the drill, Noble Energy Inc.
And that's not all! The article additionally notes that there may be more! From the article:
The team will keep their drilling rig in the area for two more wells they believe may be present as well.
So, greed as a motivating factor for the Gog-Magog attack to come? It's not looking nearly as odd as a motive as it did even a month ago. The Bible - God's Word! It never ceases to amaze.

Not only are we potentially seeing dramatic developments in Israel's prosperity as a nation taking place, another mystery of the Gog-Magog event to come is being ironed out in the news of our world today, that mystery being why Turkey - a NATO ally and traditional friend of the West - is eventually going to switch teams, so to speak.

Ever since the Israel-Hamas conflict occurred in Gaza, Turkey's feathers have been ruffled as I noted in a recent commentary. Tensions are continuing to be high between Ankara and Jerusalem, the following excerpt from a Jerusalem Post article highlighting that:

In what appears to some in Jerusalem as an attempt to create friction between the Israeli and Turkish military establishments, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called in Israeli envoy Gabi Levy Saturday to protest reports that an IDF general sharply criticized Turkey's prime minister for his harsh condemnation of Israel during Operation Cast Lead.
An attempt to create friction between the Israeli and Turkish militaries? How very Gog-Magog is that?

And lastly, on the issue of Turkey posturing for its role in the future Gog-Magog attack? A Ria Nivosti headline is intriguing to say the least: Putin says Turkey 'priority' for Russian foreign policy. A priority indeed as we look at Bible prophecy.

At RaptureAlert.com, we're sounding the alert that Jesus Christ is coming soon! How can we be sure of that? Ezekiel 38:8 states that the Gog-Magog attack will occur in "the latter years" - the last days, the end times!

The stage is being set! The King is coming!

Are you ready?
