One That Calls For A Response

By Jim Hutchens

The National Council of Churches said: "Christian Zionism, in its narrow ideological form, encourages political advocacy committed to preserving control over all of historic Palestine for Jewish people alone, including the West Bank and Gaza strip, to ensure the realization of the movement's own end-times hopes. This ideological approach rejects any peace process built on a negotiated settlement towards a two-state solution to the conflict. Leading advocates of this ideology have formed themselves into oftentimes very public and well-funded political action groups whose aim is to prevent any negotiations that may lead to a two-state solution to the conflict. ... It is a movement with negative consequences for Middle East peace." [http://www.ncccusa.org/pdfs/christianzionismbrochure.pdf]

God says: "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. ... having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them." (I Timothy 4:1-2; II Timothy 3:5).

The Jerusalem Connection says: The NCC has us pretty well pegged, with one monumental exception. We don't base our support of the modern State of Israel on some speculative end-time scenario. We look to the past and our support of Israel on the everlasting decrees of God. The immutable promises of God's covenants made with the Jewish people include a land with specific boundaries. (Genesis 15:18, 17:7-8). And by the way, we can forget about a "Middle East peace." This will come only when the Prince of Peace reigns with supreme authority. And that may be closer than we think!
