One That Calls For A Response

By James M. Hutchens

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said: "[As a result of this election] Christians should pray for and return to a biblical model of holiness and righteousness. And believers in America should prepare for persecution. We are going to see, I think, unprecedented attacks against our faith through measures like the hate crimes [legislation] to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act,"... "We're going to see attacks on innocent human life through the Freedom of Choice Act, trying to erase all the gains that have been made in the pro-life movement. And I think even our freedoms are going to come under attack."

God says: "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:9-14).

The Jerusalem Connection says: If I were to pinpoint where we are on God's prophetic time-line, I would say we are about to enter into the season spoken of in the above scriptures. Yet, as Gary Bauer reminds us, God is still in control. "There is no authority except which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." (Romans 13:1). Knowing that God is in control we also have a mandate from God to pray for those in authority. "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (I Timothy 2:1-5). That call to prayer transcends political party and ideological lines. It will also be critical if we are indeed entering into a time Christian persecution.
