Sour Krauthammer

An extremely interesting interview with political pundit Charles Krauthammer has shed light on the implications of a potential Palestinian state — a possible reality that Christian Zionists, among others, find repulsive.

Krauthammer, a perceptive political observer, essentially said that by signing the Oslo Accords, Israeli accepted the Palestinian narrative and made the official aspirations of the Palestinians legitimate. He also said Israel cannot hold the West Bank, and that concessions by former Premier Ehud Barak at Camp David in 2000 have put Jerusalem’s status on the table.

Listen to Krauthammer’s comments to “Inside Israel’s” Mordechai Twersky:

“’Once Israel broke the taboo, it opened the floodgates,’ Krauthammer continued. ‘It legitimized the Palestinian state. That was Israel's work, not mine. At this point the entire world expects, and will settle for nothing less, than a Palestinian state on the West Bank. The only question to me that remains is where the borders will be.’”
As a Jerusalem Post report on the interview put it:
“But Krauthammer said Israel cannot take on the world.”
Do you see? Do you see how explosive this reality is? More on that in a minute, and how it relates directly to biblical prophecy.

Krauthammer reinforces his point about world opinion of Israel and the Arab-Israeli conflict:
“’You're dealing with a world that has already changed its mind, sort of accepted it as a given that there will be a Palestinian state,’ he said. ‘I think Israel has the right to say Oslo is torn up and let's go back to 1992, but you cannot have that in history. That's just not how the world works. If Israel was a great power it could probably enforce that over the world. Israel is a tiny state. It can't enforce it over anyone. And the world will not accept that. They came under Israel's tutelage in 1993 to accept these claims.’”
Krauthammer then alludes to the menacing stance the international community has for Israel:
“’The world is not going to allow it, number one,’ Krauthammer continued. ‘And secondly, it's infinitely more desirable to cut yourself off, to do what a Ben-Gurion would have done, to live in a state that is overwhelmingly Jewish, and to live the way Israel was intended to be. History is going to leave you no choice, anyway. But even if it did, I think it would be the unwise choice.’”
For those of us who follow Bible prophecy, this is rich stuff. It reinforces in a huge way the point that I love to think about and discuss: the Bible is validated due to “facts on the ground” in our world. In other words, what you see in the Bible is what you see in our world: hatred for Israel and the status of Jerusalem. What could account for this, but a Supernatural Being who predicted it long ago?

This is what God says in Obadiah 15-18:
“The day of the LORD is near for all nations.
As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head. Just as you drank on my holy hill, so all the nations will drink continually;
they will drink and drink and be as if they had never been. But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and Jacob will possess his inheritance. Jacob will be a fire and Joseph a flame;
Esau will be stubble, and they will set him on fire and destroy him.
There will be no survivors from Esau.” The LORD has spoken.
This is a specific prophecy for the last days, regarding the Arab people. Note also the warning given in Joel 3:2:
“I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel,
because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.”
It doesn’t matter that liberal scholars, the Emergent crowd, and others constantly repeat the lie that the Bible isn’t true, is full of mistakes, outdated, etc. What matters is that God has pierced our world, and has directed history to a conclusion that we can clearly see from network news, online, and in newspapers: the world is getting its fill of the Jewish state, and intends to do something about it, even if that means imposing a hostile Arab state in its doorway; a whole host of hostile Arab states already sits on Israel’s doorstep. Soon they’ll be inside the house.

And what will be their fate? Interestingly, the Lord says He will do this to them. This isn’t something that He sits passively for, and waits for it to unfold. In fact, the Lord of History causes these things to happen, for a specific reason: to enter into judgment with the nations for how they have treated Israel.

Krauthammer is right about many things. He’s one of my favorite commentators. But on one point he is wrong on a colossal scale: Israel is not only going to retain the “West Bank” — the Jewish state is set to become the crown jewel of the entire world.

My friends, this is where the mystery of true religion melds with our gritty, day to day lives. Bible prophecy is now a cold, hard fact.

The nations are preparing for war. The Lord has told us how that will turn out.
